TERMS OF SERVICE (RULES)
mission statement
DewDadsChat provides an online community including chat and forums to meet and make friends, find love and have fun. Our hope is to never close down like many other chats have done.
philosopy
Some chats control everything you say and do, others live by the motto "anything goes". We hope to fall somewhere in the middle. While everyone has an opinion and should be allowed to voice it, there also has to be a limit. Speak your opinion and then move on. Excessive swearing and name calling is just not necessary to make your point. Ranting, raving and preaching an opinion is not necessary. These are the things that make other chatters log out which is not our goal. Having said all that, keep in mind that everyone is human and makes mistakes. Moderation is an art, not an exact science, and we are by no means perfect. If you are having issues, discuss them with a moderator or an administrator and we will do what we can to help in accordance with these Terms of Service (TOS).

A little bit about Trolls
What is a troll?
Trolls are a nuisance. They are chatters (or forum posters) who purposefully cause annoyance to other users. Their approach can and does vary. Some trolls are obvious, some are not. They range from simply being bored and trying to upset you, to attempting to make you leave chat altogether. Mostly, it's about getting negative attention.

Be calm
Don't rise to their antagonistic attitude. Remain calm.

Don't lower yourself to their level
Don't start throwing insults at them. It's what they want. They will turn your words around on you and make you look bad.

Pay a compliment
It is the last thing they are expecting and the opposite of what they want.

Will this get rid of all trolls?
No, but in time they will tire if they are not getting a reaction.

When all else fails, use ignore (block user)
The ignore feature in chat is there for a reason, and it is your most powerful weapon.

Remember
Without attention, trolls are nothing.
chat moderators
Ask any room moderator for help if you are having any issues. If you are reporting another user, please record the date and time so they can pass that along to the administrator - moderators cannot access the chat logs and will forward the issue to the administrator.
administrator
The Administrator will help with any issues you are having in chat. Moderators can help you in most cases and will forward some issues to the administrator when needed.
free account
Guest users are encouraged to register their name (also called sign up) to experience the full level of access and usage of all chat features. The ability to chat as a Guest user is not always available. Registration is free and only takes a minute. Once you've registered, your chat nickname will be protected by password so that no one else can use your selected nickname. All users must register separately in the Forums in order to view or post there. For help with chat registration, visit the Chat Help page.
Games in chat
The game host will set the rules for game play. You must abide by these rules or the game host may remove you from play. In extreme cases, the game host may request the administrator take further action against anyone purposely disrupting a game. If you want to dispute an answer from the game, please wait until after the game to discuss it with the game host and/or scorekeeper. The current chat software does not permit a separate room for game play, so please bear with us during game play.
we are reasonable
It's not always easy to tell the difference between humor and harassment, so please work with us if we ask you to change the topic of discussion. Please feel free to Private Message a moderator in a chat room to discuss any issues instead of doing so in the open room.
use ignore
In chat, as in real life, you will find people you do not like and those who don't like you. Use the Ignore option (block user) in chat or simply do not respond on the shoutbox. While you may speak your opinion of someone, you may not swear at them or use name-calling. Say it once and move on. If you dwell on or continue fighting with others, you will be silenced or removed from chat. Fighting between users often disturbs the other users and causes them to leave chat or avoid the forums and shoutboxes. If you do not like what someone is saying, ignore them. In chat, you can access the Ignore option by opening a private window with this person, click the Gear icon, and then click the Block User button.
we're not referees
Please keep in mind that DewDadsChat does not mediate disputes between users and is not concerned with the details of any dispute except that users follow these TOS. Do not ask a moderator or administrator to take sides. That is unfair and not required when trying to end a dispute between users.
report abusers
Report any abuse of these TOS to the administrator, moderator or take a screen shot and email to us. If you cannot screen shot, tell the administrator the date and time the abuse occurred. The administrator may be unable to assist you without this information. Use the email address listed on this page. You must make a copy of any private message conversation that you are reporting. There is a button in the private message window to download the private log.
Banning
If you are banned, you may e-mail the administration to release the ban. The decision is solely at the discretion of the administrator. You may also be banned as a result of complaints from other users. In certain cases the administrator may contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to have your account cancelled if your abuse violates your ISP's Terms and Conditions. The length of bans can vary, although, some bans may be kept indefinitely at the discretion of the administrator. Most bans are short term.
we are not evil
These TOS are put in place to keep chaos and mayhem out of chat and the forums. These are the rules administrators and moderators will follow when necessary to keep the peace. Having said that, we will not over react to every single infringement of these rules. We are all adults and should be able to conduct ourselves as such and will only fall back on these rules when absolutely necessary. Chat should be a pleasant experience for all without the need for supervision so we try to avoid having to take a hard course of action in most situations. So basically, when push comes to shove, we will fall back to these rules as a course of action. If you follow the Basic Rules page, you should have no issues with the moderators.
shoutboxes and forums
For anyone posting in the shoutboxes and forums, please know that all IP addresses are tracked. "Fake" names are not permitted and will be changed to regular chat names when known. The issue with "fake" names arises when someone is insulting another user and often tries to hide their normal chat identity - which is what we do not permit. You are allowed your opinion but use a recognizable name to say it. Not following the posting rules will result in being banned. Use the appropriate sections for various topics, most importantly politics must only be discussed in the Political Forum. The TOS are followed in all shoutboxes and forums with the exception of the Political Forum where the rules are more relaxed. The homepage shoutbox is monitored closely due to its high visibility.
images and linking
Never link to files or images hosted on this site. If you use images on your site, then host them on your server - not ours. You may not use a DewDadsWeb, DewDadsChat, or DewsChat logo or other proprietary graphic of DewDadsChat to link to this Site without the express written permission of DewDadsChat. Further, you may not frame any DewDadsChat trademark, logo or other proprietary information, including the site content, without DewDadsChat's express written consent.
politics
To be clear, "politics" in chat, forums and shoutboxes includes politics, current events, news and media, propoganda, and any related discussion. These are the topics to discuss only in the Political Forum or Political Shoutbox, not on the homepage shoutbox. The Political Shoutbox will have little-to-no moderation of posts. The administrator will decide which topics are appropriate and which topics are not. The only exception allowed will be statements of memorium and/or sympathy in the case of death and tragedy in the world.
do not challenge admin
A daring user will often attempt to challenge a moderator or administrator. He or she might try challenging the authority, going on a rant, drawing other users into a fight, asking other users to pick sides, making repeated snide remarks and attempting to provoke negative reactions from the moderator or other users. It is deliberate behavior and an attempt to "push buttons" in others. This behavior will result in being booted from the room or possibly being banned. This is only to defuse the situation and avoid ranting and fighting that can cause other users to leave chat. Continually being negative or inciting negative reactions from other users or the moderators will be dealt with swiftly and seriously. This is also for the case when a user repeatedly lies or exaggerates about how badly they are treated by a moderator or administrator. If you do not agree with actions taken against you, then discuss it in Private Message with the administrator or through email. Openly complaining in chat will only result in further action taken against you.
private messages
Private messaging (also called instant messaging) is a way to discuss topics privately with other users. Moderators do not have access to private message logs. Reasonable respect for your private conversation can be expected but is not guaranteed.

If you message someone who does not wish to message with you, they should tell you. If they do not respond at all, please assume they do not wish to converse privately with you and respect that decision. Asking for permission before private messaging another user is often the best course of action.

If you are reporting an issue with another user that occurred in private, you must include the log of any private messages involved. Open a private window with this person, click the Gear icon, and download the private message log. You can report issues to any moderator who will pass the information along to the administrator, or e-mail your complaint directly to the administrator. No help can be given without a copy of this log.
we didn't do it
DewDadsChat provides this site free of charge and undertakes no responsibility to review or screen any items that appear resulting from its use. DewDadsChat assumes no liability or responsibility for the content of any posting. This site is provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied. Each user is responsible for complying with these TOS.
be safe
Each user should keep in mind that any web site is not completely secure and should never give any personal information to other users including real name, address, phone number, or other identifying information. The administration will not request this type of information in an open forum for any reason. Never release your password(s) to anyone. Administration can only reset your passwords when necessary; it cannot be read. Use the Reset Password option for chat or forums where available.
you can't blame us
DewDadsChat expressly disclaims any and all warranties, express or implied, as to the truthfulness of the postings, and specifically disclaims any and all warranties, express or implied, of merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose or use. DewDadsChat accepts no liability for the accuracy of any information contained in the service, for the content of any posting or for any action taken based on any posting.
we will not pay you
DewDadsChat shall not be liable to any other party or any third-party for third-party claims or losses of any nature, including but not limited to, lost profits, or punitive or consequential damages.
we can delete you
DewDadsChat reserves the right to remove any posting at any time, to ban or block any user or postings by any user, and to modify or discontinue this service without warning.
participate & pay attention
Users occupying chat but not participating will be removed from chat and/or banned from chat if they continue this practice. Chat space is limited so please only use chat if you plan to participate. Users are warned in advance so simply notify the moderator if you are conversing in private - this issue pertains to users who are bypassing the automatic time-out feature and are not participating in any conversation. Users are not permitted to put moderators or administrators on Ignore.
other chatrooms
Alternative and/or temporary chat rooms are available from links on the main page. Alternative chats are usually unmoderated, so use at your own risk. These rooms are still subject to these TOS, but will not be actively monitored. Use these chat rooms in the event regular chat is unavailable.
FYI: Freedom of Speech
The first amendment of the US Constitution says:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

This amendment places a limit CONGRESS and by association the government. There is absolutely nothing in the first amendment which places a limitation on a person or company to regulate speech on the chatrooms or forums they provide. If a website owner, presuming it isn't the U.S. government, wants to restrict speech on their site, there is nothing to prohibit them from doing so.
